Understanding RIT and Percentiles

What does
RIT mean?
A RIT score measures how much growth a student has made. It measures academic performance, regardless of age, grades, or grade level.

READING MAP SCORES
The mean score is grade level.
Look at your grade level and the time of year of the test. 
This is Jose, a fifth grader. He got a score of 210 on the Fall MAP test. That means he is performing at grade level!
MATH MAP SCORE
Hi, this is third grader Jessica. She got a score of 189 on math, which just made grade level. 
What is Percentile?
Percent (%) is not the same as percentile (%-ile).

Percent compares the number of correct answers to the total number of questions. If a student got 89 out of 100, the score is 89%. Percent does not compare the score to other students.

Percentile compares a student's performance to other students. It is not how many questions that the student got correct.

Percentile compares student performance against other students.  For example, a score of 50%-ile means that 50% of other students scored lower than this student. The best score is 99%-ile (99% of students scored lower). The score of 30%-ile means that this student scored better than 30% and worse than about 70% of other students.
