HOW TO EFFECTIVELY APPLY RADIOGRAPHIC IMAGE EVALUATION

1. PATIENT IDENTIFICATION
-patient information match the radiographic image and requisition

Does radiographic image include all relevant areas of anatomy within collimation borders?

3. LEAD ANATOMICAL MARKERS AND LEGENDS 
• Correct lead anatomical markers clearly visible in radiation field – must be visible before post processing (raw data)
4. CORRECT PROJECTIONS 
• Does acquired image follow standard radiographic technique according to prescribed literature and TUT standards
5. CORRECT EXPOSURE 
• Evaluation of suitability of exposure factors

• Image density & contrast
• Under- and over exposure

6. OPTIMUM DEFINITION

• Evaluate the bone cortices and trabeculae to ensure movement or other factors have not caused an unacceptable degree of image unsharpness 
7. COLLIMATION

• Has any of area of interest been overlooked due to over-zealous collimation? (anatomical cut-off) 
• Check relevant soft tissues have been included 
8. ARTEFACTS

• Are there any artefacts on the image? 
• Reason being from the patient, clothing, equipment or imaging process

9. NEED FOR REPEATS / FURTHER PROJECTIONS

• Judgement made from points 1-8 
• If one or more factors makes image diagnostically unacceptable, then repeat • Would additional projections enhance the diagnostic potential of examination?

• Note anything unusual such as normal variants or pathology that may influence your future actions or aid diagnosis
