Diet is important because it helps aid the healing process. In order to fully recover your body needs proper nutrition. 
Surgical Process
Damaged surfaces at end of tibia and femur are removed
Undersurface of kneecap is cut and resurfaced, a spacer is then inserted between metal components

A physical therapist will work with you from Day 1, the goal is to get up and walking at least 100ft before being discharged from the hospital and referred to outpatient physical therapy.

GOAL is to gain 120 degrees of flexion or more
REMEMBER:
You may also hear clicking of the knee when bending/straightening the leg, but don't worry this is NORMAL
Most people feel numbness in the skin around the incision. You may also feel some stiffness when bending the knee.

Restoring full motion of the knee isn't common. Most patients can expect 120 degrees of flexion (bending) and 0 degrees of extension (straightening).
